Vapi is genuinely good at what it does, which is why the reasons for leaving it split in two opposite directions. One group wants less assembly: no visual builder, build times reported at two to three times a more opinionated platform, and support that is mostly community and email. The other group has the opposite complaint, which is that Vapi sits between them and their speech and language providers, so somebody else's outage becomes their call quality.

Reported latency of around 800 to 850 milliseconds at the median circulates in comparison content, higher than Vapi's reported figures, but latency in this category is a function of the models you pick and Bland picks them for you. The recurring praise is for the builder experience specifically, and the recurring limitation is that it is a conversation design tool first and a telephony platform second. Since pricing is no longer published, treat any cost figure you find in a comparison as stale.

How does Voiceflow compare to Vapi?
It gives non-engineers control, which Vapi never will, and it gives up voice depth and pricing transparency to do it.
This is the clearest trade on the page. Vapi publishes a $0.05 platform fee and expects engineers; Voiceflow publishes nothing and expects a design team. Most of the public record dates from its earlier self-serve era, when it was priced for small teams, so treat older roundups carefully because it is being sold to a different buyer now. The consistent praise is for the builder and time to deployment; the consistent limitation is workflow depth.

Far easier and roughly fifty times the entry commitment. It has stopped competing with Vapi and started competing with contact centre platforms.
Vapi will take $0.05 a minute and let you start this afternoon. Synthflow will not talk to you below $30,000 a year. At 10,000 minutes a month Vapi is reported at $700 to $2,500 all-in and Synthflow is $2,500 with a contract, so at high volume they converge. 8Telnyx
Telnyx is the option that answers the passthrough complaint by owning the pieces instead of reselling them. That is the opposite of Vapi's model, and it produces the lowest verified all-in cost on this page.

Telnyx has a G2 profile you can check via G2 search, which we could not verify because G2 blocks automated access. It is a substantially more established company than the AI-first entries here, with review coverage as a telephony carrier rather than as a voice AI platform, which is worth remembering when reading its ratings. Its claims of sub-200ms round-trip latency and built-in STIR/SHAKEN attestation do not appear on its voice AI pricing page, so treat both as reported rather than verified.

So the honest answer spans a factor of nearly twenty. On a budget model, Bland's Build tier does not overtake Retell until roughly 30,000 minutes a month. On a premium one it overtakes at under 3,000. The commonly quoted 3,000 to 4,500 range is only true if you assume the expensive end of Retell, and most teams shopping on price are not at that end.
Two worked examples in circulation are worth correcting while we are here. At 1,000 minutes a month the comparison usually pits Retell at about $150 against Bland at about $410, but that uses Bland's $299 Build tier and ignores Bland Start, which has no platform fee at all and costs $140 for the same volume. The practical rule: if you are running under about 5,000 minutes a month on a mid-tier model, a platform fee is money you do not need to spend.

One rule saves a great deal of trouble here: what a vendor publishes and what a vendor will sign are different things, and only the second protects you.
